Business & Industry

SDIEA works closely with the schools in Warwick and our project partners work with the schools in the greater Darling Downs region to help young people to access employers to obtain both workplace experience and casual and school-based employment. We also have young people who have completed school who are looking to commence employment and a career.

Over the last 7 years we have built mutually beneficial relationships with over 150 local employers who support students to gain workplace experience and the all important employability skills needed for successful careers.

Organisations can choose the program most suitable for them with SDIEA able to assist businesses to link inexpensively to the right program to assist their immediate needs. Many employers use SDIEA programs to provide succession planning opportunities to identify possible future employees.
We have young people registered with us now who are interested in meeting with employers for full-time, part-time, casual and school-based positions.

SDIEA can assist employers by referring candidates for positions who are eager and willing to work. We can also provide employers with information on potential government incentives, which can reduce the cost of employment and training and help contribute to the success of your business.
Listed below is information on a number of our programs, or you can contact one of helpful staff to discuss the best options to suit your business. You can become a SDIEA employer today!

Adopt A School - Funded by the Australian Government’s Dept of Education Science and Training

We encourage businesses to adopt a school in order to engage young people in hands-on learning experiences in a specific industry sector, preferably in a skills needs or emerging industry sector.

An adopt a school project may involve students from a number of local schools. Adopt A School projects can include building a product or planning an event as part of providing an experiential learning environment that allow the young person to learn about business in a real workplace.

An Adopt A School project will provide the following outcomes for you.

We are currently working on an Adopt A School project with the Transport & Warehouse industry. Please call us for more information or to register your interest.

Structured Workplace Learning – Funded by the Australian Government’s Dept of Education Science and Training

Structured Workplace Learning describes an activity similar to work experience, but is more rigorous.

Students in year 10 during their career education programs can elect to test and taste their initial career choices by spending 10 days in industry. Generally we break this up into 2 x 5 days blocks. All schools in Warwick support this activity and release students for 5 days but expect the student to invest 5 days of their own e.g. during holidays.

Students in years 11 & 12 who are studying a Vocational Education & Training subject either at school or TAFE are encouraged to spend 10 days in industry also. Here the student will be able to practice the skills they have learned at school in the industry related to their course AND gain new ones. These skills are assessable by their teacher.

SDIEA has been providing quality structure workplace learning placements for over 7 years. We have witnessed students change their initial career choices, cement their initial career choices and most importantly our local employers recruit staff directly from this program.
The schools in our community provide for Workcover and Indemnity insurance for students participating in this activity. There is no cost to the employer

School-based Australian Apprenticeships – Funded by Warwick State High School

Warwick State High School has asked us to facilitate and promote school-based Australian Apprenticeships for their students. SDIEA does this by ensuring any job opportunity is promoted through the school notices. In addition to this Natalie will work directly with you to skill you up to find your own Australian Apprenticeship, attend the sign up with you to make sure your best interests are upheld and will monitor your progress through the life of the Apprenticeship whilst you are still attending school.
Natalie is very passionate about Australian Apprenticeships and she has a deep understanding of what employers want. Call in and see her or give her a ring.
